Jennifer C. Jaff is an attorney and founder of Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness, Inc., a tax exempt organization that provides free information, advice and advocacy services to patients with chronic illnesses. Advocacy for Patients provides free services to patients nationwide in areas including health and disability insurance, Social Security disability, employment discrimination, educational equity, and resource location. Jennifer is the author of Know Your Rights: A Handbook for Patients with Chronic Illness, which is in its fourth edition, and Friday Tired, a book about her experience as a patient and patient advocate. |
Jennifer graduated with honors from Georgetown University Law Center in 1984, after earning membership in phi beta kappa and numerous other awards at her college graduation. At Georgetown, Jennifer was a staff member of the Georgetown Law Journal, where she published her first of over a dozen law review articles on issues ranging from health care fraud to women’s rights.
For four years following her law school graduation, Jennifer taught at Vermont Law School, University of Miami School of Law. Upon moving to Connecticut, Jennifer has been an adjunct professor at the University of Connecticut Law School, as well. Most recently, she co-taught Advanced Civil Procedure: Class Actions at U.Conn. with Phil Tegeler. She has taught and practiced Administrative Law, Civil and Political Rights, and Women & Law, publishing articles in all of those areas.
In addition, Jennifer clerked on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit for judge Danny J. Boggs. During this year, Jennifer learned much about the process of judicial decision-making.
After her clerkship, in 1990, Jennifer came to Connecticut, and with the exception of a two-year stint in Washington, DC, where she lobbied Congress for national women’s organizations, and ultimately became a partner in the law firm of Sprenger & Lang, PLLC, Jennifer has resided in Connecticut ever since.
Jennifer spent over five years in the Attorney General’s office, working primarily in the area of health care and social services. While at the Attorney General’s Office, Jennifer created a health insurance consumer advocacy program, in which she negotiated with health insurance companies and HMOs. This part of her work for the State remained a part of her law practice, as well as one of the staples of Advocacy for Patients with Chronic Illness, Inc.
The nature of Jennifer’s previous law practice is best described as complex litigation, serving as counsel in ERISA and employment discrimination class actions.
Jennifer is admitted to the Bars of the States of New York, Connecticut, and the District of Columbia, as well as the United States Supreme Court, the United States Court of Appeals for the Second and Sixth Circuits, and the United States District Courts for Connecticut and the Southern District of New York.
